QStar Technologies to Offer New Integrated Archive Server with Hitachi Data Systems

NAVARRE, FL – April 4, 2013 – QStar Technologies today announced a new archive server solution using QStar Archive Manager software and Hitachi Compute Rack servers. This solution provides a pre-installed integrated server for end users, allowing a single archive solution appropriate for multiple markets, including the “Media Cloud” and “Broadcast Archive” use cases.

The QStar solution integrates seamlessly with Hitachi file and content platforms including Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) and Hitachi Content Platform (HCP).  This solution can also leverage Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) to cache content in active use. This cache may be used as a flexible pool for particular projects and may grow over time. This integrated server solution also supports all currently shipping tape technologies (LTO-5, LTO-6, TS1140 and T10000C), using proprietary or industry standard LTFS file systems. Tape libraries from all leading manufacturers are supported.

Broadcasters can now benefit from a more fully converged architecture for archive that combines elements of compute, networking and storage under a single management layer. This solution has the added benefit of supporting a large range of archive technologies including object storage, tape and optical, while migrating, moving or copying content from a variety of applications and storage environments. Especially attractive is the ability to create a seamless archive resource for popular media asset management systems and media server systems.

“In the past, archive appliances have been specifically designed to support a single archive technology, perhaps tape, optical or archive disk solutions,” said Riccardo Finotti, President and CEO for QStar Technologies Inc. “To simplify the process involved in designing an archive system, QStar and Hitachi Data Systems have collaborated to create an integrated server that can be used in multiple environments and support one or many archiving technologies.”

“Hitachi Data Systems has a long-standing relationship with QStar and we have successfully partnered to serve customers worldwide. With the addition of an integrated archive server, we are providing our customers a much greater value proposition with a converged and cloud-ready solution that can scale to petabytes and beyond,” said Dr. Jay Yogeshwar, Director, Media and Entertainment, Hitachi Data Systems.

QStar has additionally partnered with Rorke Data, an Avnet company, who are specialists in the Media and Entertainment market. They will be a primary integrator for the QStar archive server. With detailed knowledge and years of experience with QStar software and Hitachi Data Systems infrastructure, Rorke Data is well positioned to create and distribute the solution worldwide.

“Rorke is pleased to be working with Hitachi Data Systems and QStar to integrate their respective hardware and software products, simplifying the creation of archiving solutions for all workflows. Rorke has seen a significant increase in archiving requirements using both LTFS tape and object storage, and feels the new server solution will provide an easier integration of these technologies into today’s rapidly growing media market,” said Bob Herzan, Director of Vertical Segments, Avnet Embedded.
