QStar Technologies, Inc., a global leader in compliance, archiving and data protection solutions, today announces the availability of QStar HSM-Lite, an archive management software designed to address the archive and regulatory needs of the small and medium businesses required to meet industry compliance. HSM-Lite is an extremely cost effective archive solution that enables small businesses to manage large pools of data through a seamless tiered storage management structure, supporting disk, tape and optical.
QStar HSM is designed to use high-speed storage devices, such as disk arrays, as a cache and move data automatically to less expensive, slower, removable storage devices, such as optical discs and magnetic tape drives. While it would be ideal to have all data available on high-speed devices all the time, this is prohibitively expensive for many organizations. Instead, HSM manages the enterprise’s data on slower devices, and then copies data to faster disk drives when needed.
QStar HSM-Lite is the same feature rich product as QStar HSM, however, the higher functionality is sold ala-carte. HSM-Lite supports up to two libraries from a single server and up to 4 volume sets with a single license. In addition the hard disk cache is limited to 10 GB per volume set. This is the ideal configuration for the small to medium business unit having to manage archives. This powerful archive management solution comes at a very attractive price point, starting at only $2,950 list price for up to 5.5 TB of managed storage with today’s latest write-once tape technologies.
Higher functionality such as automatic disk or tape copy as part of a disaster recovery methodology, off-line media tracking, library import/export magazine support, media compaction, and NFS support for Windows, may then be added to HSM-Lite at an additional cost. This functionality is all standard in QStar’s full HSM product.
“The full version of HSM is a very feature rich enterprise level archive tool, however, some of our customers have asked for limited functionality versions of our archive software. We have heard their requests and we believe that we have addressed their needs with a lighter version at a very aggressive price point”, comments Riccardo Finotti, President and CEO of QStar Technologies Inc. “We pride ourselves on responding to the needs of our customers, and in this case the need is for a more basic product at a competitive price to satisfy the smaller business requirements regarding archive compliance.”
HSM-Lite is available in 16 operating systems, including Windows NT, XP, 2000 and 2003, Solaris 9 and 10, HP-UX, AIX, RedHat, Debian, Fedora, Mandrake, Gentoo, as well as a number of legacy operating systems.
