QStar Software Adds Support for the Sony SAIT PetaSite Tape Storage System for Hierarchical Storage Management

Mary Esther, Florida – February 20, 2006

Today, QStar Technologies Inc. announced that its Storage Management and Data Protection software supports the Sony Consolidated Storage Management (CSM) series PetaSite™ library system with a suite of products available in Windows NT, XP, 2000 and 2003 and Linux and Unix versions.

Coupled with QStar data management software, the CSM series PetaSite tape library systems are ideal for digital asset management, data backup, and enterprise data storage applications.

A basic SAIT PetaSite system contains two SAIT or LTO tape drives and an integrated Ethernet PetaSite Controller (PSC) unit with remote administration and SystemWatchSM services.  This entry-level system, encapsulated within a standard 19-inch rack space, is easily configured to house up to 12 drives and expands from 60 to 216 cartridges via upgrade license keys for up to 108TB of native (uncompressed) capacity.

To further expand the PetaSite tape library, any combination up to seven rack consoles may be added to the existing CSM-200 base unit, providing up to 96 drives and 2,988 cartridge slots for virtually unlimited capacity and throughput. The next generation SAIT tape drive (SAIT2-800), scheduled for release mid 2006, with an industry leading native capacity of 800GB per cartridge, pushes the PetaSite maximum native capacity to 2.39 PetaBytes in a single library system.

“The PetaSite system is ideal for our large enterprise installations,” says Todd Deveney Vice President of Sales for QStar. “With an extremely low cost per megabyte and an effective way to store very large amounts of data efficiently, our partners will benefit greatly from our certification that our storage management and data protection software supports the Sony PetaSite tape  library.”

QStar Data Protection Software runs on 13 different operating systems including Windows NT, XP, 2000 Server, Server 2003, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, and Linux and is an enabler to a host of applications in the medical, life sciences, government, broadcast and many other highly regulated industries. The software presents the RAID and tape library as a single server volume, which may be shared over the network. The system administrator defines policies that determine where files are physically stored. QStar provides data protection by way of mirroring data within the system, mirroring two systems simultaneously, or by using the QStar Simulated Tape Jukebox software to mirror the PetaSite unit to a RAID system, thereby, providing a continuous backup of data. Administrator polices determine how long data is to be retained in cache, the allocation of files to specified groups of tape cartridges, and the automatic generation of tape cartridge replicas for off-site retention.

The PetaSite library system managed by QStar Software is ideal for managing large volumes of reference information, because it combines tiered storage management with an unmatched data protection feature set, ensuring data authenticity and disaster prevention.

QStar PetaSite support is currently available through select resellers.  For more information, go to www.qstar.com or call us at +1.800.568-2578.
